Around Islesboro Race
Not always a good start

Round out the racing season with a late summer favorite, the annual  Around Islesboro Race . Usually held the first weekend after labor day, AIR is hosted by the ever hospitable Northport Yacht Club. Things start to quiet down in Bayside,  but this doesn’t keep the club from throwing a great event. Each year close to 40 boats in multiple divisions circumnavigate the island of Islesboro. As with any race, a good start can be the key to your success… Or not. (Insert view of starting cluster as seen from turtle head 2013). And a favorable tide keeps you off the rocks of Bracket’s Channel…or not (insert image of grounded boat someone mentioned having this?). After various challenges that keep the race interesting from year to year, grab a vacated mooring for the night and enjoy the potluck feast put together by the members and friends of NYC. Proceeds for this regatta go to the NYC youth sailing program. When all else fails to keep your spirits up, just remind yourself, “it’s for the kids!”
